Clay Community Loses Former Administrator

JOHN ROBERT ESTEPP, JR.

ROSEMOUNT —John Robert Estepp, Jr. (Bob), 94, of Rosemount passed October 5, 2018. He was born in South Webster on April 5, 1924. He was the youngest of eleven children of John Robert Estepp and Francis Combs Estepp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Berlyn Carole Estepp (Hartz) of 60 years. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Estepp (Euan Reavie) of Duluth, MN, and Brian Estepp (Meliea) of Reynoldsburg, OH. Bob graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1942. He attended Rio Grande College in 1942 when he joined the Navy and served in World War World II as a Naval officer. Bob then graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1947 and taught school at different local high schools (e.g., McDermott and Green Township) until he was called back to duty as a Naval officer in the Korean War. Bob returned to Clay High School in 1953 and obtained his Master's degree from Marshall University while he served as principal and superintendent for 24 years before retiring in 1977. He also co-owned the Portsmouth Monument Company.

 

Bob enjoyed reading and gardening and traveling and antiquing with his wife and best friend Carole. He was a volunteer for SOMC and loved spending time with his family, neighbors, and many friends.

 

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662. Arrangements are under the direction of F. C Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth.
