William Clay Vice

ROSEMOUNT- William "Clay" Vice Jr., 86 of Rosemount passed on Tuesday April 26, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1935, to William C. Vice Sr., and Dorothy Faye Vice.  He is preceded in death, July 28, 2017, by his beloved wife Carol Burgess-Vice whom he married on August 19, 1955, along with a grandson, Kyle Blevins of Rubyville. Clay and his wife, Carol, spent many hours on the field developing an outstanding softball program with a winning traditon in the Clay community. They began the Little League program in 1976, (not knowing they were starting a long, lasting tradition of Clay softball) and took the 1978 girls' senior league team to the World Series, finishing third. In 1978 Clay and Carol started the high school softball team. During their eleven years, the Panthers never lost a league, a sectional, or a district title.  The coaching duo recorded 262 wins (only 20 loses) in eleven years between 1978 and 1988. Carol and Clay were the first coaches from Scioto County to advance to the OHSAA Final Four and the Panthers were the first team from Scioto County to win a state title, three in total (1980, 1981, & 1983). The Panthers, under the direction of the Vices, captured 11 league titles, 11 sectional titles, 11 district titles, 8 regional titles, 2 state runner-up trophies, and 3 OHSAA state titles (with a record of 79-1 in those three years). History of Clay Softball Many thanks go out to Clay and Carol Vice for all their hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and most of all, wonderful memories that they gave to the Clay softball program.
