Clay Local School District Activities
While the academic programs at Clay emphasize a broad experience, co-curricular and extra-curricular offerings encourage and develop the individual talents and interests of students. A variety of activities and organizations provide the opportunity for the student body to be challenged, to participate, and to show community and school spirit.
Faculty, friends, parents, and students are engaged in a variety of student activities each year. These activities extend beyond the classroom on to the courts and playing fields, into the community, and, hopefully, into “the minds and hearts” of those involved. Through these “active” experiences, the Clay High Local School District hopes to provide each member of the student body a well-rounded education and experience.
The academic competition teams (quiz bowl), the individual athletic teams, the band, the Bible Club, cheerleading, the chorus and show choir, the WCHS news team, the webpage team, and the yearbook staff provide further opportunities for student involvement. In addition, students participate in such activities as blood drives, health fairs, homecoming, lock-in nights, meet the candidate nights, Portsmouth River Days, and CF walks. Likewise, the New Boston Kiwanis Chapter of the Clay National Honor Society is made up of students selected for character, leadership, scholarship, and service. These students along with the Clay Jr.-Sr. HS Student Council, which is made up of elected representatives of the student body who serve as a liaison between faculty and students, sponsor community-wide activities for the school district.
